As a Wheel:Life sponsor, Hollister Incorporated has provided an unrestricted educational grant to financially support educational programs and resources for the community that we serve. But that’s not the only way Hollister assists people who have spinal cord injury, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis or a variety of other medical conditions.
The research-driven line of urological products from Hollister gives peace of mind and dignity to those who have to manage their continence care daily. You may already be familiar with some of their products, like Advance Plus and Apogee intermittent catheters. Medical products comprise just one part of the Hollister difference, however, as the company is committed to improving the lives of their customers through ongoing product research, attentive service, and community support.
Hollister Gives Back By Providing Community Support
Over the next several months, you’ll see Hollister appearing up front and center in the following programs and events that are designed to assist individuals who use wheelchairs.
National Veterans Wheelchair Games
The National Veterans Wheelchair Games are an outgrowth of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ historic involvement in wheelchair sports. Wheelchair sports had their beginning in the aftermath of World War II, when young disabled Veterans began playing wheelchair basketball in VA hospitals throughout the United States.
Today, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games represent the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world, with hundreds of athletes attending from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Great Britain. The 2013 event is taking place this week in Tampa, Florida.

Spina Bifida Association Education Days
Designed to deliver vital education from experts in Spina Bifida, these affordable events are intended to bring information to a greater number in the Spina Bifida community than ever before! Hollister is a Silver Sponsor of SBA Education Days. The next SBA Education Day event is scheduled in October at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Register to attend here.
Can’t make it to one of the in-person events? SB University is available online 24 hours a day/7 days a week to deliver educational sessions on a wide variety of topics related to Spina Bifida – and it is all FREE to registered users.
The Miami Project: Hollister’s Alliance for Spinal Cord Injury Research
Hollister is also a key sponsor of the Buoniconti Fund, which is the fundraising arm of the Miami Project, the largest, most comprehensive spinal cord research center in the world. Its 120-plus strong group of some of the best and brightest research scientists and technicians focuses not only on curing paralysis, but improving the lives of millions of spinal cord injured individuals.
Recently, doctors at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis performed the first-ever Food and Drug Administration approved Schwann cell transplantation in a patient with a new spinal cord injury. The procedure, performed at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, is a Phase 1 clinical trial designed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of transplanting the patient’s own Schwann cells.
In supporting such an illustrious group, Hollister Continence Care is fulfilling its commitment to help provide independence to people whose lives have been affected by spinal cord injury.
